Who is John T. Petters?
John T. Petters was a gregarious 21 year-old student and one of the most vibrant individuals you would ever want to meet. People gravitated toward John due to his contagious energy and charismatic personality. He was very inclusive and had a way about him that made others feel welcomed and invited. He lit up a room and left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
A leader amongst his friends and his community, John was particularly interested in understanding the world outside his own. He was a member of his high school’s multi-cultural club which launched programs in Edina, Minnesota to advance understanding of other cultures and ethnicities. Because he cared about the world around him, he became a very politically involved young man. He kept himself informed on the changes around the globe and wanted to be directly involved. John had a passion for education but always found time to satisfy his appetite for adventure. He fulfilled this hunger by traveling to exotic cities all over the world.
John was an honors student at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. As a political science major, John also maintained focus in the areas of international business and finance. His entrepreneurial spirit propelled him to start and preside over the business school’s Investment Club. Shortly before his death, John had expressed an interest in helping others which served as the catalyst for initiating a scholarship program.
Following his untimely death in 2004, John’s family, friends and business associates began to work together to fulfill John’s dream by creating the John T. Petters Foundation.
